Inosine and Oat Straw in Protoflow: What 50 mg and 32 mg Mean
Inosine and oat straw are two small lines on the Protoflow label: inosine 50 mg and oat straw 32 mg per 2 capsules. Inosine is a nucleoside that raises uric acid, and oat straw is a traditional herb for mild stress and sleep. Neither has a prostate or urinary indication, and the sales page does not name either.

Inosine
What is inosine, and can it raise uric acid?
Inosine is a nucleoside the body makes. Yes, it raises uric acid, and at high doses kidney stones followed.
The label lists "Inosine" at 50 mg per serving. It is 3% of the 1,619 mg total and it has no Daily Value. The label does not say why it is there.
The best data come from a Parkinson disease trial of 298 people. Inosine, dosed to lift blood urate, raised it by 2.03 mg/dL, a 44% rise, and did not slow the disease. Kidney stones were more frequent: 7.0 versus 1.4 per 100 patient-years (Parkinson Study Group, JAMA 2021 (SURE-PD3)).
That trial used doses far above 50 mg and did not study the prostate, bladder or testosterone (Parkinson Study Group, JAMA 2021 (SURE-PD3)). So the finding is a flag, not a warning about Protoflow. Still, anyone with gout or a history of kidney stones should ask a doctor.
Is inosine a hormone? No. It is not a hormone, and the trial did not measure testosterone.
Oat straw
What is oat straw used for?
Oat straw is the green stalk of Avena sativa, used in the EU for mild stress and sleep.
The European Medicines Agency monograph covers the aerial parts of Avena sativa picked before flowering. Its traditional-use indication is relief of mild symptoms of mental stress and an aid to sleep, for adults and teens over 12 (EMA, Avenae herba (oat herb)).
It says clinical evidence is insufficient and rests on at least 30 years of use, with rat studies the only data cited. It has no prostate, bladder or urinary indication, and no side effects had been reported when assessed (EMA, Avenae herba (oat herb)).
Protoflow lists "Oat Straw (Stalks)" at 32 mg. Is 32 mg meaningful? Next to the 1,619 mg serving it is 2%, and the monograph gives no dose to compare. We cannot say it does anything at that size.
Gluten and allergens
Does oat straw contain gluten?
The label does not say. Oats have no wheat gluten, but they can be cross-contaminated.
The sales page says "Non-GMO, vegan and gluten-free" (Protoflow sales page), and the label does not repeat a gluten-free statement. The capsule is gelatin, so the vegan part conflicts with the label.
People with celiac disease should ask the order desk for written proof before they buy. The Other Ingredients also include soy protein concentrate, which is a soy allergen (FDA, Food Allergies (major allergens)).

Why are these two ingredients on one page?
They are the two smallest lines after cayenne, and both lack prostate evidence.
Inosine and oat straw sit near the bottom of the label by weight, and neither is on the sales page. Putting them together keeps the small lines in one place.
| Line | Per 2 capsules | Main flag | Evidence source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inosine | 50 mg | Raises urate; kidney stones at high doses | Phase 3 trial (Parkinson Study Group, JAMA 2021 (SURE-PD3)) |
| Oat straw | 32 mg | Traditional use for mild stress and sleep | EU monograph (EMA, Avenae herba (oat herb)) |
Do not stop a prescribed medicine because you started Protoflow. Weak stream, straining or waking at night to pee needs a doctor to find the cause (NIDDK, Prostate Enlargement (BPH)). See more under who it is for and the claims page.

FAQ
Inosine and oat straw questions
01What is inosine?
Inosine is a nucleoside the body makes, sold as a supplement. Protoflow lists it at 50 mg per 2 capsules. The best-known trial used it to raise blood urate in Parkinson disease and did not slow the disease (Parkinson Study Group, JAMA 2021 (SURE-PD3)). It did not study the prostate.
02Can inosine raise uric acid?
Yes. In a 298-person trial inosine raised urate by 44%, and kidney stones were more frequent on inosine (Parkinson Study Group, JAMA 2021 (SURE-PD3)). The doses were far above 50 mg. People with gout or kidney stones should ask a doctor first.
03Is inosine a hormone?
No. Inosine is a building block for cell chemistry, not a hormone, and the trial we read measured urate, not testosterone (Parkinson Study Group, JAMA 2021 (SURE-PD3)). Nothing on the label or sales page ties inosine to hormone levels.
04What is oat straw used for?
Oat straw is traditionally used in the EU for mild stress and as a sleep aid (EMA, Avenae herba (oat herb)). The monograph says clinical evidence is insufficient and lists no prostate or urinary use. Protoflow lists Oat Straw (Stalks) at 32 mg.
05Is 32 mg of oat straw a meaningful amount?
We cannot show that it is. It is about 2% of the 1,619 mg serving, and the monograph we read gives no matching dose (EMA, Avenae herba (oat herb)). No study tested oat straw at 32 mg, and none ties it to the prostate.
06Does oat straw contain gluten?
The label does not say. Oats do not contain wheat gluten but can pick up traces from processing. The sales page says gluten-free (Protoflow sales page), but the label is silent. Celiac patients should ask the order desk for written proof.
07Why are these two ingredients on one page?
They are two of the smallest label lines and neither is on the sales page, so one page covers both. Each has its own flag: inosine for urate, oat straw for thin evidence. Neither has a prostate indication.
