Can prostate supplements raise PSA?
Most prostate supplements have no PSA data at all. That means we cannot say they raise it, and we cannot say they leave it alone.
PSA is a protein made by prostate cells, normal and cancerous. A doctor reads it as one clue among several, not as a verdict (NCI, PSA Test Fact Sheet).
The best-studied prostate herb is saw palmetto. In a one-year trial of 225 men, PSA did not differ from placebo (Bent et al., NEJM 2006). NCCIH also says it does not appear to affect PSA readings (NCCIH, Saw Palmetto).

Can prostate supplements lower PSA?
A supplement could in theory lower PSA, but we found no evidence that one does. That is the risk: a number that looks calm may not reflect the prostate.
Some prescription drugs do lower PSA. Finasteride and dutasteride are examples (NCI, PSA Test Fact Sheet). Your doctor needs to know about them, and about any herb, to read your result fairly.
Keep taking prescribed medicine unless your doctor says otherwise. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how a supplement fits with tamsulosin or finasteride.
What else changes a PSA result?
Many everyday things change PSA, and most are not cancer. BPH and prostatitis can raise it, as can infection, a recent biopsy, hard exercise and ejaculation (NCI, PSA Test Fact Sheet).
Screening is a personal choice. For men 55 to 69, the 2018 USPSTF statement calls it an individual decision made with a clinician (USPSTF, Prostate Cancer Screening).

No. BPH, prostatitis, infection and recent exercise can all raise PSA. Among men biopsied after an elevated result, only about 1 in 4 are found to have cancer, so a high number means follow-up, not a diagnosis.
